Our Services

Our home care service is entirely flexible, there is no long term contract and all care provision is bespoke to the wants and needs of our customers. Some of the services we provide are:

  • Care for older people
  • Care for people living with Dementia & Alzheimer’s
  • Live-in care (24 hours care) or overnight support (both as an alternative to residential care – for further information, please see the Case Study section below)
  • Care for people with a physical disability
  • Support for people with Learning difficulties including Autism
  • Personal care & hygiene (help getting up or going to bed, help washing, etc.)
  • Meal preparation
  • Domestic care and housekeeping
  • Respite care – supporting the main carer/family allowing them to have time off
  • End of life care/ Palliative care
  • Companionship and escorting into the community (to appointments, social activities or shopping)
  • ‘Back home from hospital’ care (for extra support after being discharged or whilst being treated)

We follow an extremely strict recruitment and development policy ensuring that all our staff are carefully selected, police vetted, trained and supported.

Our fantastic team is formed by empathic and compassionate people with a diverse set of skills allowing our customers to receive the very best service possible. All care workers are trained in-house and they are constantly and thoroughly supervised, monitored and assessed. This is why we have only the most caring, dedicated and professional care workers.

Case Study

Bluebird Care (Westminster) recently launched its 24 hour service called ‘Live-in’ care. This service involves working very closely with the customer, family, friends and health professionals to ensure that people can stay in their home instead of going into residential care. We are pleased to say this has been very successful with some incredible feedback from our customers.

Below is a case study outlining the type of customer service and support that we are dedicated to providing our customers with. Not only this, we also truly believe that our job is to support the families and friends of our customers who cannot be there all the time for their loved ones. Through our service we have been able to support people that live far away from the person they care about, or for those that are full time carers but need a few days off. One family member said:

I have been very impressed with Bluebird Care, I initially phoned Peter to find if my Aunt, who was in a nursing home and very unhappy, could have 24 hour care in her home. There were lots of complications including whether my Aunt would be well enough to make the move home, but Peter patiently outlined the options and services they could provide, it sounded ideal and the only way my Aunt could live at home again, after several falls she was not safe to be alone.

Once my Aunt was able to move home the Bluebird Care team swung into action, a full time carer was set up in the spare bedroom and although there were initially some teething problems, Bluebird Care quietly worked through them until the right mix of carer was found and my Aunt was happy.  

The team have been able to work with and co-ordinate with the local GP practice, organising the District nurse to call to the house regularly, the Doctor to attend when necessary, they have organized a podiatrist and dietician to visit.  But most importantly they are able to provide care in the home including providing meals which have tempted my Aunt to start eating again, they have been most professional in keeping records of hydration, food intake and bowel movements, all issues which resulted in hospitalisation previously.

I don't live in the UK and so Bluebird Care have been able to provide me with a regular email updates and these together with news from friends who visit and phone calls to my Aunt have given me a full picture of how things are progressing.  

I think the thing I have been most impressed with Bluebird Care, besides the personal care, has been the professional attitude of the staff I have dealt with.  It is not always the case with care for the elderly to have intelligence, thoroughness, professionalism and personalised care but this has been the case with Bluebird, I have to say without their efforts my Aunt would still be in a nursing home, very unhappy and deteriorating whereas at present she is improving and her quality of life is far improved in her own home.

She has her belongings around her with friends able to visit and her own network to hand.  I could not be happier with the service Bluebird Care has been able to provide.”

  • Bluebird Care Westminster & City of London Implements iConnect Software

    We have recently invested in iConnect which will provide a great benefit to our staff and customers.

    iConnect delivers real-time task lists and data to our care workers via their mobile phones and records their actual arrival and departure times at customers’ homes using near-field communication (NFC) technology. The need for care workers to carry around paper rosters showing where they need to be and when will be eliminated using iConnect and customers will no longer be asked to sign pieces of paper to prove care workers’ attendance at appointments. Each care worker will be supplied with a smartphone for use which will relay information back real time to the office.
     
    Bluebird Care Managing Director Peter Slough says:
     
    “The use of iConnect will improve efficiencies and provide us with greater transparency around care delivery. We’ll know exactly when our care workers arrive and leave customers’ homes and there will no longer be a reliance on paper rosters and follow-up phone calls between the office and care workers when appointments need rearranging.”
     
    The benefits to customers of iConnect include improved visibility around care worker appointments. If care workers are running late, for example, the customers and their families will be able to be notified in a timelier manner, providing reassurance. It will also be much easier for Bluebird Care Westminster to rearrange care workers’ appointments and whilst they are ‘on the move’ to accommodate last minute changes. In addition, the stress surrounding asking a customer to sign a proof of attendance document will be eliminated.
     
    Peter added, “We are committed to providing the very best quality of care to our customers. This latest mobile solution will ensure we continue to provide the highest levels of service whilst operating as efficiently and cost-effectively as possible and also helping us to deliver what our customers expect.”

    Christmas can be both a happy time but also a time where isolation is really felt within the community.

    We are happy to say that our service over Christmas and the New Year is running as usual and we are already planning with our care workers treats to celebrate Christmas day. We believe that no one should feel lonely, especially at this time of the year.

  • Julie Lowe Becomes Community Coordinator

    Many of our customers and families will know Julie from her time as a care worker with us and also from her work in the office.

    Her energy, attitude and passion for care (and her bubbly personality) all were behind the reason for creating a new post within the company for her – community coordinator. Her role is to promote the brand and give back to the Westminster community. It is really important for us to be a real part of and engage in the community. This is why we are involved in community events such as Silver Sunday, SouthWestFest, dementia action alliance and other fundraising activities.
     
    Julie said, “I’m really excited about my new role within the company which will give me an opportunity to not only give people information about the services we provide but also dedicate time to working with people in the local community by giving something back.”

  • Julie Green Completes Dementia Champions Training

    A big thanks for Julie who showed great dedication in taking her weekend off to complete her dementia champions training.

    A Dementia Friends Champion is a volunteer who encourages others to make a positive difference to people living with dementia in their community. They do this by giving them information about the personal impact of dementia, and what they can do to help. This allows them to help people understand what it’s like to live with dementia and the actions they can take in their communities. This could be anything from recognising someone is disorientated on the bus and taking a bit of time out to help them to being actively involved within the community.
     
    Peter Slough said “Julie has always been committed to improving the quality of life for people living with dementia and she demonstrates this on a daily basis with our customer’s and staff. This is why she is doing such a fantastic job for our customers. As with all the management team, she’s always had a passion for dementia services, and this goes back over her 30 years in the health and social care industry. Even her university degree focussed on the effect for both the person living with dementia and their families. She now wishes to conduct information sessions for over 100 people in the next year. If each person takes away a bit more compassion for people living with dementia the knock on effect will be very positive within our community. Well done Julie!”

  • Kim Bennett Joins the Bluebird Care Team

    We are really pleased to announce that Kim Bennett has joined the team as a Field Care Supervisor.

    Her role is to support and work with the care workers in the field and maintain the high level of service that our customers expect. Our customers can expect to see Kim’s smiley face a lot more now as she will be conducting regular customer reviews, spot checks and quality monitoring checks. All this adds to the standard of service that it is so important for us to provide.

    Kim comes to us with over 5 years’ experience as a care supervisor for an award winning care company. Before that she worked as a care assistant for 3 years so has a real in depth knowledge of the challenges our customers and care workers face. Most importantly Kim is a person who gives 110% and has a real passion for doing everything for the best interest of the customer.
     
    Julie Green said “Kim came to us with fantastic references, her previous company didn’t want to lose her but she was moving to London from another part of the UK, so we are very happy that she has bought into the ethos and passion of the care service we provide here. She will be a great support to our care workers but most importantly, she will be constantly in the field visiting our customers and making sure that every little detail is taken care of. She has a fantastic attitude, energy and something that no amount of qualifications can build – a real understanding and passion for care.”

    We were honoured to receive our local MP Mark Field to our office.

    Mark is the MP for the Cities of London and Westminster so he also welcomed the news that the service we are providing in Westminster is now available to the City of London residents.

    Mark Field commented "Allowing those that need care to have the choice to stay in their own home is something I welcome. The work Bluebird Care does with elderly and disabled residents to prevent them feeling isolated from the rest of their community is most welcome.

  • Silver Sunday Event

    Silver Sunday Event

    On the first Sunday of October we were very happy to be a part of Silver Sunday – an annual day of fun and free activities for older people across the UK, celebrating the value and knowledge they contribute to our communities.

    We had a free tea tasting and jewellery making event with over 50 people attending. Also the South Westminster Community Choir who sang some old favourites were a huge success. Silver Sunday was launched in 2012 by Lady Christabel Flight, Westminster City Council’s Older People’s Champion. We are very lucky that she is our local councillor and a supporter of the service we provide in Westminster. In fact Christabel and the Lord Mayor came to our event and each made a piece of jewellery. We are already planning for our event next year – it’s going to be bigger and better and more inclusive for members of the local community!
     
    Peter Slough said, “Silver Sunday is the perfect event for us to get involved with. Everyday our staff tackle issues of isolation and loneliness within Westminster and the City of London. Westminster has the highest rates of people living within flats in the UK and unfortunately this means many people are stuck in flats that are above the ground floor and therefore very isolated and not able to get out. When the opportunity to get involved with Silver Sunday arose we were very excited and wanted to put on an interesting and inclusive event. Additionally having the Lord Mayor and Christabel attend was a real treat. Silver Sunday is all about getting people out and active in the community. Statistics show that 60% of people who have had a fall in Westminster never leave their house again, this is something that ourselves and the rest of the Westminster community need to work hard to change.”

  • Bluebird Care Westminster Expands Operations into the City of London

    We are very pleased to announce that we have expanded our services into the City of London.

  • Opening of the South Westminster Memory Cafe

    Bluebird Care attended the opening of the South Westminster Memory Café at the Victoria Medical Centre on the 7 August 2013.

  • Westminster Dementia Action Alliance (WDAA) Meeting

    We had over 25 organisations attend the first WDAA meeting.

    Our managing director Peter Slough has been involved in the setting up of the WDAA and is now acting as Chair. This locally based community group is committed to transforming the quality of life of people living with dementia in Westminster and the millions of people who care for them. Bluebird Care Westminster has signed up to the National Dementia Declaration and has publicly committed to completing actions that will lead to improving the lives of people within our community.  Find out more.

    Fundraising for Alzheimer’s Society

    The Bluebird Care team had a great day out raising money for the Alzheimer’s society at this year’s SouthWestFest Gala Day.

    Over 8,000 people attended from the local community in what was an action packed day. As well as other fundraising activities our managing director Peter Slough personally manned the hook the duck game which proved to be a huge success! Over £300 was raised.
