Why should you consider a job in homecare?

Published: 17/02/2019

There are so many reasons to consider a job in homecare, it's hard to know where to start! We look at some of the reasons our Bluebird Care team love what they do.

By its very nature, the news often focusses on the negative stories. So, when it comes to coverage of working in social, are we really getting the true picture? As an experienced care provider, we know that the positive aspects of working in care surpass any perceived negatives by a mile! Here’s why we think you should consider a job in homecare…

You enjoy job satisfaction and make a difference

Caring for others really is one of the most rewarding experiences you’ll ever have. Yes, there will be times when you face challenges, just like everything else in life, but the satisfaction of helping someone far outweighs any difficult times. It also means the world to the person you’re caring for. The appreciation and affection that we get from our customers across south London is worth every second of the work that we do.

Research has shown that caregiving can actually have genuine mental and physical health benefits for you too – from lowering your stress levels to boosting your self-esteem. Being there for someone who needs you is a privilege. Once you’ve experienced the warm, fuzzy feeling caring gives you, you won’t want to do anything else!

Our Care Assistant Pauline agrees: “I enjoy my job as I get a lot of satisfaction in helping people. It is very rewarding to put a smile on an older person’s face and to know you have made their day from your visit. A lot of our Customers live alone and have no support or communication with anybody other than me for days on end. I like to think I am there to break up their day and I know they look forward to my visit. Companionship is my favourite part of the job…”
Care Assistant Nicholas says: “This is what I do best, I am a people’s person and need to be on the go so a Care Assistant’s job is perfect for me.”

You can build a long, successful career

At Bluebird Care Clapham & Streatham we like to look after our staff as much as we do our customers. We’re really committed to helping members of our team grow and develop, not only because we want them to love their job but also because having a close-knit group of well-trained, valued carers enables our customers to have the very best home care available.

Care Assistant Tahera says: “I am more confident and have more experience in a whole range of areas now…I feel like I have grown as a person and developed ample skills to move forward.”

There’s always plenty of support given to people who come to work for us. And with in-house training courses and the opportunity to study for NVQ and HND qualifications, there’s real potential to progress and find a role that suits your strengths, whether that’s being a Care Assistant or taking a management position.

Our Care Assistant Kenisha has seen the potential career opportunities: “In terms of ongoing support and career development, I know I can achieve great things at Bluebird Care and I have seen some of my colleagues go up the career ladder.”
