Dementia Experience Bus 2026

Understanding Dementia Through Experience

"You don't need to be a carer to attend."

Dementia affects families, friends, neighbours, colleagues, customers and communities. Whether you have personal experience of dementia or simply want to understand more, everyone is welcome.

At Bluebird Care Torbay & Totnes, we believe that greater understanding leads to better support for people living with dementia and their families.

Our Dementia Experience Bus offers a unique opportunity for people across Torbay, Totnes and the surrounding communities to gain a deeper appreciation of the challenges that dementia can bring to everyday life.

Whether you are a family member, friend, carer, professional, local business owner or simply interested in learning more, we invite you to join us for this valuable community event.

Free to attend and open to all members of the community.

What Is The Dementia Experience Bus?

The Dementia Experience Bus is an immersive, interactive experience designed to help people understand some of the sensory and cognitive difficulties that can affect those living with dementia.

Participants complete a number of simple everyday tasks whilst experiencing altered perceptions that aim to simulate some of the challenges people may encounter.

The experience often provides powerful insights that can change the way we understand and support people living with dementia.

What Should I Expect?

The experience usually takes around 20 minutes.

You will:

  • Meet members of our team
  • Experience the interactive simulation
  • Learn more about dementia and its impact
  • Discuss your experience afterwards
  • Receive information about local support and services

There will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions and continue conversations afterwards.

Who Should Attend?

This event is suitable for:

  • Family carers
  • Friends and relatives of people with dementia
  • Individuals wanting to learn more
  • Community organisations
  • Volunteers
  • Local employers and business owners
  • Healthcare and social care professionals
  • Members of the wider community

Together we can help create more dementia-friendly communities across Torbay and Totnes.

Why Take Part?

People often tell us they leave the experience with:

  • Better understanding of everyday challenges
  • Greater empathy and awareness
  • Practical ideas for supporting loved ones
  • Increased confidence in communicating with people living with dementia
  • Knowledge of available support services

For many carers and family members, it is also an opportunity to connect with others facing similar experiences, share stories and gain mutual support.

Sometimes simply talking with someone who understands can make a huge difference.
