Bluebird Care Taunton and Mid Devon hosted a special Christmas Mind and Motion event at The Kings Arms Community Hub, 4 High Street, Wellington, TA21 8RA, bringing local people together for music, movement, and festive fun. The event took place on 8 December, with the final Christmas-themed session planned for 22 December at the same welcoming community venue.
Designed to support both mental wellbeing and gentle physical activity, the Christmas Mind and Motion session offered a warm, relaxed space where people could socialise, stay active, and feel part of the Wellington community. The event formed part of Bluebird Care’s wider commitment to helping older people, carers, and those living with conditions stay connected and engaged, especially during the winter months.
Festive activities and live entertainment
The Christmas Mind and Motion event featured a range of seasonal activities to get everyone into the festive spirit. Guests enjoyed live music from a talented violinist, creating a cosy Christmas atmosphere that encouraged people to sing along to carols, relax, and enjoy the moment.
There were mince pies, biscuits, and refreshments on hand, giving attendees the chance to share a treat, chat, and take a break between activities. Christmas crafts and carol singing added to the sense of occasion, with simple, accessible activities suitable for a wide range of abilities. Dancing and gentle movement were also encouraged, helping people to stay active in a fun and safe way.
Supporting mind and body: “mind and motion”
The Mind and Motion concept focuses on supporting both cognitive wellbeing and physical activity through enjoyable, low-pressure group sessions. At the Christmas event, games like Jenga and creative tasks such as painting were used to stimulate concentration, hand–eye coordination, and fine motor skills.
These hand-dexterity activities are particularly beneficial for older adults or those living with long-term conditions, as they help maintain independence and confidence in everyday tasks. Combining these with music, singing, and light dancing created a rounded session that supported mood, memory, balance, and social interaction all at once.
A welcoming community space in Wellington
Holding the event at The Kings Arms Community Hub on Wellington High Street made it easy for local people and families to attend. The central location at 4 High Street, Wellington TA21 8RA, ensured that the venue was accessible for those coming on foot, by public transport, or with support from carers.
The hub provided a friendly, informal setting where guests could relax, feel at home, and stay for as little or as long as they wished. With the final Christmas-themed Mind and Motion session scheduled for 22 December at the same venue, there is another opportunity for local residents to come along, join in the festive fun, and experience the benefits of community-based activities.
