From Nursery To Homecare - Kathryn's Story

We recently spent some time with care assistant Kathryn with Eileen, who is one of her regular customers. Kathryn has been part of the team for just over three years and shared her story with us.

We’re proud to have an experienced and reliable team of care assistants, with Kathryn being no exception to that. Her background is in children’s nursing, where she started in Harrow, London and then moved to Hastings where she worked for 20 years.

The nursery Kathryn worked at in Hastings had charitable status, with an outstanding Ofsted rating and rented part of a school. Sadly, the nursery needed to close as it was unable to merge with the school when there were some changes and was also unable to find an alternative location.

This happened around the time of the COVID-19 pandemic and is gave Kathryn the opportunity to think about the next phase of her career. She has always been a people person (albeit with small people) and when she saw an advert for care assistants on Facebook, Kathryn knew she needed to apply.

Kathryn was successful in the interview and has never looked back since. She is able to work part time with flexible hours that work around her family commitments and loves every part of the role.

After the stresses and strains of running a nursery, dealing with Ofsted and all the other requirements, it really is lovely to go to work and simply spend time with people I see as my extended family.

I was nervous at the start (particularly about finding my way to places), but everyone is so welcoming and there’s a lot of support from the office. I have my regular customers and am able to apply the skills I used running the nursery to my role as a care assistant. I’d certainly recommend it!
