When Veticana Gitau joined Bluebird Care, she thought it would be a temporary job while she settled into life in the UK. Today, she's Deputy Manager at Bluebird Care Market Harborough & Oadby, a qualified trainer and is completing her Level 5 Leadership and Management qualification.
Her story shows that a career in care can begin in the most unexpected way.
I never imagined this would become my career.
Before joining Bluebird Care, Veticana's career looked very different. She studied mechanical engineering before moving into international business and marketing. After relocating from Germany to the UK, she joined Bluebird Care as a Care Assistant while earning some extra money and settling into a new country.
At the time, she never imagined it would become her career.
I never imagined it would become a long-term career. The more involved I became with the organisation, the more opportunities I saw to develop. Before long, I realised social care offered a career I was passionate about.
As she got to know the people she supported and the colleagues around her, she discovered a profession where she could keep learning, take on new responsibilities and build a future she genuinely enjoyed.

Veticana's managers recognised her potential and encouraged her to develop her career.
She progressed from Care Assistant to Care Coordinator before becoming Deputy Manager, taking on new responsibilities with every role.
Along the way she has completed specialist training, developed leadership skills and continued to build her knowledge. Today she is completing her Level 5 Leadership and Management qualification and is a qualified trainer in medication, safeguarding, and moving and handling.
My directors recognised my potential and encouraged me to progress from Care Assistant to Care Coordinator and now Deputy Manager. Their support gave me the confidence to keep developing.
Making every day meaningful
For Veticana, the most rewarding part of working in care is knowing she can have a positive impact on people's lives every day.
Whether she's supporting customers, helping colleagues develop or solving new challenges, no two days are ever the same.
The people we support today are the generation who once cared for us, and I see it as our chance to give something back.
She hopes more people will begin to see social care differently.
People don't always see the opportunities it offers or the impact you can have, and that's something I'd love to change.
