When Amreet Dhillon joined Bluebird Care as a Care Assistant, she was looking for a role that could fit around family life after having her son. She saw it as a job rather than the beginning of a long-term career.

With encouragement, training and support from the people around her, that first role became the start of a journey that would take Amreet from delivering care in customers’ homes to becoming a Care Director.

Today, she helps lead Bluebird Care services across the East of England, supporting customers, colleagues and local communities.

Finding a role that worked around family life

Before joining the care sector, Amreet worked as a dental nurse.

After having her son, she began looking for a role that would offer greater flexibility while allowing her to continue working closely with people. This led her to Bluebird Care, where she became a Care Assistant.

At the time, Amreet was not searching for her next big career move. She simply wanted work that fitted around her family. However, once she began supporting customers in their own homes, she discovered how rewarding care could be.

Helping people remain safe, comfortable and independent gave Amreet a real sense of purpose. She also saw how the right care could reassure families, protect someone’s dignity and allow them to continue living in the place they knew and loved.

Encouraged to recognise her potential

Amreet’s progression did not happen because she arrived with a detailed career plan. It happened because experienced colleagues recognised her potential and encouraged her to take the next step.

With the support of managers, directors and mentors, she began developing her confidence and taking on more responsibility.

Amreet progressed from Care Assistant to Supervisor and then Lead Supervisor. These roles allowed her to support other Care Professionals while building her understanding of how high-quality care is organised and delivered.

The guidance she received helped her see abilities in herself that she had not previously recognised.

Building her knowledge and confidence

As her career developed, Amreet progressed into the role of Coordinator, where she gained greater experience in organising care and supporting both customers and colleagues.

She also completed her Level 3 qualification through the Bluebird Care Academy. Combining structured learning with practical experience helped Amreet strengthen her skills and prepare for further leadership responsibilities.

She went on to become Deputy Care Manager and then Customer Care Manager, continuing to broaden her knowledge of care delivery, customer relationships and team leadership.

Each new opportunity helped her grow in confidence and understand what she could achieve.

Progressing to Care Director

Amreet is now a Care Director, with a role that covers customer care, team leadership, community partnerships and the continued development of Bluebird Care’s services.

Her journey from the frontline continues to shape the way she works. Having supported customers directly, Amreet understands the importance of listening to people, recognising their individual needs and delivering care that allows them to live well at home.

She has also seen the difference compassionate support can make during the most difficult moments of someone’s life, including helping customers receive end-of-life care with dignity and giving their families reassurance.

Alongside supporting customers and families, Amreet is passionate about helping colleagues develop. She knows from her own experience how powerful the right encouragement can be when someone is still discovering what they are capable of.

The difference support can make

Amreet’s story demonstrates that career progression is not only about qualifications or job titles. It is also about having people around you who recognise your strengths, encourage you to develop and give you the confidence to try something new.

She did not join Bluebird Care expecting to become a Care Director. Her career developed one opportunity at a time, supported by practical experience, training and mentorship.

The role Amreet originally chose because it worked around her family became a meaningful career through which she can make a difference to customers, families, colleagues and communities.
