Team members from Bluebird Care’s offices in Scarborough and Harrogate have raised nearly £200 for the Alzheimer’s Society at this year’s Great Yorkshire Show.

The event was used by the home care providers as an opportunity to raise funds for vital dementia research, an illness that impacts many people’s lives and is close to the heart of Bluebird Care, with many of their customers living with forms of dementia.

Bluebird Care Scarborough and Harrogate exceeded their intended target of £180, raising nearly £200 for the Alzheimer’s Society over four days.

During the show, team members hosted two main fundraising activities. The first was a traditional tombola, where members of the public had the chance to win several fantastic prizes.

The team also hosted a second competition that challenged people to put on PPE equipment correctly in the fastest time possible. The inventive and fun test was a great success among those who came to the show, with the quickest person completing the task in just 17 seconds.

In addition to this, buckets were placed around the stall for members of the public to donate throughout the day separately from the activities.

The industry leading home care provider often hosts fundraising events for various charities, each chosen for the positive impacts they deliver to society.

Reflecting on their success Sam Mortimer, Care Manager at Bluebird Care Harrogate said: “We have raised a whooping £195.77 for the charity, which was great to hear! The people were amazing, and they were happy and smiling.”

Dennis Atkinson, Technical and Development Officer at the Bluebird Care offices, said: “The public were very kind when they realised that we were raising funds for the Alzheimer’s Society. One young lad, in particular, came back numerous times and spent his birthday money on the Tombola.”

Paulina Jezierska, Recruitment and Marketing Officer for the Bluebird Care offices, added, “I have loved being involved with the Great Yorkshire Show. Not only did we manage to raise some money for a great cause, but it was also lovely to go out there to people and talk about what we do and why we do it!”
