In honor of Mental Health Awareness Week, our very own Mental Health Nurse, Nicola, took over the office to show us that looking after your mind doesn't have to be complicated!
It’s often the small targets and daily milestones that make the biggest difference. The beauty of mental health support is that there is so much choice—it’s all about finding the specific activity that helps you switch off and recharge.
Nicola’s 5 Top Tips for a Healthier Mind:
Tip #1: Plan Something to Look Forward to
Whether it’s a coffee with a friend or a quiet evening with a book, getting it in the diary gives you a mental "sunny day" to look toward.
Tip #2: Explore Your Creative Side
You don't have to be Picasso! Picking up some colors and getting creative is a fantastic way to quiet the mind and focus on the present moment.
Tip #3: Get Closer to Nature
Even if you're in the office, bringing the outside in with fresh flowers or a quick walk in the fresh air can instantly lift your mood.
Tip #4: Eat Well
Fuelling your body with healthy, colorful food is one of the kindest things you can do for your brain.
Tip #5: Move Regularly
A quick walk around the building or a stretch between tasks gets the endorphins flowing and helps break up the day.
Nicola’s Top 5 Actions for a Better Day:
Tip #1: Master Your Breathing
Never underestimate the power of a deep breath. Taking a moment for controlled breathing exercises can instantly lower your stress levels and ground you.
Tip #2: Phone a Friend
A quick chat can change your whole outlook. Reach out to a colleague or a loved one—connection is one of the strongest tools we have for mental wellness.
Tip #3: Stay Hydrated
Our brains need water to function at their best! Keeping a bottle of water nearby is a simple milestone for a healthier day.
Tip #4: Step Outside
Getting some fresh air and changing your scenery—even just by stepping out the front door—helps to clear the mental cobwebs.
Tip #5: Practice Mindfulness
Take a minute to simply be. Whether it's a short meditation or just observing your surroundings, mindfulness helps you switch off the noise and focus on the present.
Supporting your mental health is all about these small actions. There is no "one size fits all"—it’s about discovering the habits that work for you and making them part of your routine.
A big thank you to Nicola for sharing her tips :)
