Why these cafés matter to us
Our involvement began with seeing first-hand what the cafés mean to those who attend.
A welcoming place to spend a morning
Living with dementia can bring changes to everyday life, including how comfortable someone feels about going out and meeting people. Families and carers may also appreciate opportunities to spend time with others who understand their experiences.
Our Dementia Cafés provide a regular place to come together in a relaxed, welcoming setting. There is time to chat, enjoy a hot drink and take part in activities at your own pace.
You do not need to arrive with anything planned or feel that you have to join in with every activity. You might enjoy a conversation, listen to the music or simply sit with someone close to you and take in the atmosphere.
For people who already attend, the cafés offer the chance to continue familiar friendships and routines. For new visitors, they are an opportunity to meet people locally and gradually get to know the group.

Continuing the cafés our community values
For years, Age UK Wyvern has brought people together through its monthly Dementia Cafés in Bromsgrove and Redditch.
When Age UK Wyvern was no longer able to continue running the groups, Bluebird Care Bromsgrove & Redditch stepped forward to take them over. We wanted to help preserve the connections that people had built and ensure these valued mornings could continue.
Many of the existing volunteers are staying on, bringing familiar faces and their understanding of the groups into this next chapter.
“These cafés are so much more than just a place to meet. They are a lifeline for people living with dementia and their families, providing friendship, understanding, support and a real sense of belonging. Knowing that these much-loved groups will continue to bring people together is incredibly important to me, and I’m so grateful to Ranj and her team for recognising their value and committing to their future.”
Kelly Reeves, Dementia Service Manager, Age UK Wyvern

Why these cafés matter to us
Our involvement began with seeing first-hand what the cafés mean to those who attend.
After volunteering at the dementia cafés for over a year, I’ve seen just how important they are to the people who attend. When their future was uncertain, I wanted to do whatever I could to keep them going. Seeing how grateful everyone was when they heard the cafés would continue was truly heart-warming, and I’m incredibly proud to help them carry on.
Ranj Khatra, Director, Bluebird Care Bromsgrove & Redditch
As a local home care provider, we support people and families across our community. Continuing the cafés is another way we can help people stay connected to others close to home.
