New Orpington volunteer initiative prioritises care for the elderly
A new community volunteer initiative in Orpington is prioritising care for the elderly, as two of our area’s most trusted ‘care for the elderly’ organisations have decided to team up.
Bluebird Care Bromley, which provides individualised home and live-in care to residents across the borough, is excited to be working with the Saxon Centre in Orpington – a mainstream day care centre operated by Age Concern.
Bluebird Care’s Becky Smith, said:
“We’re pleased to be working with Age Concern and the team at the Saxon Centre. As of this week, we’re now sending a team of volunteers on a regular basis to the centre to help with tea and coffee making, serving lunch and leading activities with those that attend the centre.”
The Saxon Centre caters for elderly clients, including those who are physically frail and/or have dementia and who are in need of a day out from their home environment, or whose carers need a day of respite. It’s open Mondays to Fridays and currently has capacity for up to 60 clients a day.
“The Saxon Centre’s vision is similar to ours at Bluebird Care Bromley,” said Becky, “their vision is to maintain and extend their offer beyond the day care centre to provide valued services that meet the demand of older people living in Orpington and nearby communities.”
