You don't need experience
Good carers come from all sorts of backgrounds: shops, kitchens, farms and factories. What matters is that you're kind, reliable and patient, and that you like people. We can teach the rest.
Ivars Ceimeris heads up our recruitment and training. He started out doing hands-on care himself, so he knows what new carers need to feel confident before their first visit. You'll get full training before you visit anyone on your own.
What a day looks like
A typical morning might be:
- Helping a gentleman in Bridgwater get washed, dressed and sorted with his tablets
- Making breakfast for a lady in North Petherton and having a chat while she eats
- Doing a Health & Wellbeing Check for someone recovering from a hospital stay, recording their blood pressure and oxygen levels
- A companionship visit: a walk along the river, a trip to the shops, or a game of dominoes
No two days are quite the same, and you're never stuck behind a counter.
Rotas that make sense
Rose, our care coordinator, plans rotas by area so you're not driving from one end of Somerset to the other. If you live in Minehead, we'll aim to keep your work around Minehead. Tell us what hours suit you, whether that's school hours, weekends or full-time, and we'll try to make it work.
You're part of a team, not on your own
Home care can sound lonely. In practice, you'll have a care manager to call, regular supervisions, and an office in the middle of Bridgwater at 6-8 Monmouth Street where you can drop in for training, a catch-up or a cup of tea.
Other ways to grow
Care is a career with somewhere to go. Our branch has roles in care management, coordination, live-in care and our Discharge to Assess service, so there's room to grow.
What we ask
- A full driving licence and access to a car (for most roles)
- An enhanced DBS check, which we'll arrange
- A genuine wish to help people stay well and happy at home
