Every first Wednesday of the month, the Chantry Centre in Billericay fills with music, conversation and the clink of teacups. The Billericay Community Dance is run by Bluebird Care together with Bennetts Funerals and Unite in Kindness Billericay, with support from Billericay Town Council.
Everyone is welcome. The afternoon is dementia friendly and inclusive for adults with special educational needs, and family carers are very welcome too. You don't have to dance to come along. Plenty of guests come for the company, a cup of tea and a chat, and Michelle from Dancing Fusion leads the dancing for anyone who'd like to join in.
Loneliness can affect anyone, and it is often hardest for people living with dementia and the people who care for them. An afternoon out with music and friendly faces is a simple way to stay connected to the community, and we've seen first-hand how much difference it makes.
