Sunderland Rugby Club celebrated its 140th anniversary in style after signing a new sponsorship deal with Bluebird Care.

The two-year deal will see the Bluebird Care logo on the first team’s shirts as well as on banners and hoardings around the Ashbrooke Sports Club ground, where most of the home games are played.

The Bluebird Care team specialise in working with customers and their families across Wearside, providing social care in their own homes. Company director Stephen Finn believes backing the rugby team is in keeping with the company’s strong community ethos.

Stephen said:

The rugby club is a great community asset that brings hundreds of people in the city together on a regular basis.  Volunteers do a tremendous job at all levels to ensure that as many people as possible get to play the sport and we are proud to be linking up with an outfit that cares for the sport and the regulars that take part.”

As the rugby club celebrates its 140th year, it continues to go from strength to strength, with teams ranging from the under 7’s to the veteran’s who boast a 62-year-old among its ranks.

Rugby club chairman Paul Geehan said:

We are delighted to sign the deal with Bluebird Care which gives us stability during our year of celebrations.  It is the vital support of local companies like Bluebird Care that helps us continue to run teams at all levels, from juniors through to the first team.

We have also successfully launched women’s rugby teams which are proving very popular and we continue to forge great links with the University of Sunderland, attracting many students to the club.”
