One of our longest serving care team members, follow Gideon's incredible journey as a Bluebird...

When asked what he's enjoyed most about his 12 years with Bluebird Care, Gideon mused, "Doris." Who?

"Doris was my customer for five years. She was 95 and she'd broken her hip but because she had hemophilia they were unable to operate. She was in hospital for four months - the doctors said she'd never walk again but at the end of those four months she walked out of hospital! We kept her safe and happy at home in those last years of her life."

"She'd say that she'd never make it to 100 but guess what? I told her on my shift she would - and she made it to 102 and 2 months. Doris made such an impression on me. I'll never forget her. People like Doris are why I love my role. Be warned: helping others is highly addictive!"

As one of our longest serving Bluebirds, Gideon has seen it all and has strong feelings when it comes to critical members of the office team. "We used to have a Training Manager who was such a bore... she was so bad that I'd be falling asleep in the middle of sessions. She'd drone on and it was monotonous, but any training that Natasha delivers is such great fun!"

"The difference is night and day. Honestly, I look forward to it! Her training sticks with me and I carry that knowledge into the field... so if Natasha is offering training, sign up - you know it will be brilliant."

Whilst care is enjoyable, there can be struggles as well. Gideon says, "If you have a worry, talk about it. If your bread roll is crumbling, you've got to go to the baker! Speak to your manager, speak to the office team. Whether it's a personal or professional difficulty, they can help."

More top tips from Gideon - "Speak slowly and clearly. Have patience. Watch the news for a 'good news story' and bring it to work as a conversation starter... it will make a difference to your day!"
