On Saturday, September 26, 2015, Bluebird Care Lewisham's Care Manager, Beverley Sutherland, and Care Supervisor, Kate Mortimer, took part in Cancer Research UK’s Shine Night Walk to raise money for life-saving research.

Beginning at Southwark Park, walkers in bright, shiny clothes carrying lights and glowsticks followed a route taking in some of the capital’s most iconic buildings, floodlit and shining in the dark – including Big Ben, Buckingham Palace and The Shard – before finishing at Old Billingsgate.

Walkers were given the option of walking a half marathon, 13 miles, or a full marathon, 26 miles. Always up for a challenge, Beverley and Kate opted to for the full 26 miles. Starting shortly after 9pm and finishing shortly after 7am the following morning, they were walking for over 9hrs straight!

Over 16,000 people took part in Shine Night Walk 2014. The result: more than £4 million was raised to fund Cancer Research UK’s life-saving work.

Well done to Beverley and Kate, who between them raised over £500, though it's not too late to contribute if you didn't get round to it before the event!
