We all love a beautiful sunny day, but when it’s too hot for too long it can become unbearable and bring heat-related health risks. With all of the heat we’ve had in recent weeks, here are our top tips to keep cool.

Avoid the hottest part of the day
If you know that you feel the effects of heat easily, try to keep out of the sun when it is at it’s hottest, between 11am and 3pm.

Keep hydrated
Always carry a bottle of water with you wherever you go and when you can, refill it to keep it nice, cool and refreshing. Drink plenty of water or even diluted fruit juice if you fancy something a bit more interesting. But, you should try to avoid alcohol, caffeinated and sugary drinks as these can dehydrate you.

Light clothing
When the sun is shining, make sure to wear light and loose clothes that will help to keep you cool. Don’t forget to apply sun cream and wear sunglasses and a hat if you plan to go outside and be in direct sunlight.

Summery dinners
There’s nothing worse than having to cook for long periods of time when the weather is hot, so take a look at some summer recipes to keep things cool and refreshing.

Keeping it cool
You can keep cool indoors by shutting the curtains to stop the sun shining in or use a fan to help circulate some cooler air around the room. If you find that you’re still struggling to cool down, you could try splashing yourself with cool water, patting your head with a damp flannel or taking a cool bath.

We hope that everyone is enjoying the warm weather, but if you start to feel too hot, make sure to keep hydrated and follow our tips on keeping it cool. If you are concerned that you are feeling unwell due to the heat, please see your local doctor or nurse.
