A community group in Tunbridge Wells has been awarded our second £500 Community Grant for 2018 to fund a members' trip to the flower show at RHS Wisley!

The Number One Community Trust provides older people with regular opportunities to enjoy social events and activities, which helps to alleviate problems like loneliness and social isolation that are often experienced by older people.

Current activities include a regular quiz night, bingo, film evenings and guest speakers on a variety of subjects.

Jenny, Chairperson for the Number One Community Trust, said:

The communities we support suffer from significant social deprivation, and many of the over 65s in the area experience difficulties, either because they live alone, struggle with ill health, or have responsibilities to care for a partner or loved one.

The activities that we provide are a vital way to help older people in the community to make friends and social connections and to improve their general health and wellbeing, and the visit to RHS Wisley will provide a rare day out for our members in uplifting, inspiring surroundings.

Our excursion to RHS Wisley, which would not have been possible without Bluebird Care's generous support, will enable some of our more isolated members to enjoy a stunning flower show which they would not have been able to visit without the support and transportation that we will now be able to provide.

The Number One Community Centre is a community centre serving the residents of Tunbridge Wells' Showfields and Ramslye estates since 1995.

The centre was established to enhance the quality of life of residents from the two communities through projects that develop social, economic and environmental improvement, and to promote equality of opportunity for all residents.

Nathan, Community Liaison Manager, said:

We are delighted to be supporting Number One Community Trust with this grant!.

As a home care company, we are all too aware of the importance that social interaction can make and know that this grant will go a long way!
