Dementia Champion Finalist: Louise's Story | Care Assistant
Supporting Someone Living with Dementia
Every person living with dementia has their own story, personality and passions. At Bluebird Care, we believe great dementia care starts by taking the time to understand the individual behind the diagnosis.
For Louise, one of our dedicated Care Experts, this philosophy has shaped every visit with a customer living with mixed dementia.
From the very beginning, Louise focused on building trust and understanding what brought happiness and comfort to the customer's day. By getting to know their interests, routines and personality, she was able to provide truly person-centred care that went far beyond supporting daily tasks.
Rather than simply helping with practical needs, Louise looked for ways to make every visit meaningful. She introduced activities the customer genuinely enjoyed, including completing puzzles together, baking favourite treats and sharing conversations that encouraged connection and cognitive stimulation.
These moments may seem simple, but they have made a significant difference to the customer's wellbeing. Each activity has been carefully chosen to promote confidence and enjoyment while creating opportunities for meaningful engagement.
Louise also recognised the importance of staying connected to the local community. Regular visits to a nearby garden centre soon became a favourite part of the customer's routine, offering fresh air, gentle stimulation and a welcome change of scenery. These outings have helped lift the customer's mood and continue enjoying experiences beyond the home.
Through her compassionate work with this customer, Louise has created an environment where the customer feels valued and supported fully to continue living life in a way that is meaningful to them.
It is this commitment to exceptional, relationship-led dementia care that saw Louise recognised as a finalist in the Dementia Champion category at the Bluebird Care Awards 2026.
Her nomination celebrated the positive impact she has made by consistently putting the customer at the heart of every decision, demonstrating how personalised care can enhance wellbeing and help people continue living safely and comfortably in the place they know and love.
We are incredibly proud of Louise and the difference she makes every single day. Her story is a wonderful example of the compassionate, person-centred care our teams provide to customers and their families across our community.
