This month, meet Devon Bluebird Rebecca.
This month, meet our Devon Bluebird Rebecca. When mum of four Rebecca first began working with Bluebird Care over 2 years ago, she was completely new to care work. In the short time since, Rebecca has worked hard, undertaking various training and building her skills. All this work paid off with her recently being promoted to Assistant Supervisor in our East Devon Hub. “Rebecca has been working with Bluebird Care as a Care Assistant for over 2 ½ years now, at our East Devon Hub.
"Rebecca is a great asset to the East Devon team and consistently delivers exceptional care to her customers. She has recently been promoted to Assistant Supervisor, as well as completing her QCF Level 3, proving that she is able to really put herself out there and achieve what she puts her mind to.”
- Kirsty Warren, East Devon Hub Manager
Why did you decide to start a career in care?
I was completely new to care when I started working at Bluebird Care. I had previously been a stay at home mum of 4 children. My youngest had just started playschool, so I really wanted to get out there and do my own thing, to build a career that could work around the kids.
What attracted you to Bluebird Care?
Bluebird Care really appealed to me because of the flexible hours, which I could work around the kids. But then I also saw all the opportunities to do training and courses to build up my skills and knowledge in the care industry. I applied for Care Assistant role, and haven’t looked back. I got the job, did the induction and follow on training, and have received a lot of support since. I also just completed my CQF Level 3.
How do you balance it all – a career, looking after a large family and studying?
I’m really passionate about the work I do, which has helped and my husband has been really supportive. Bluebird Care have also been amazing. I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better employer. I have such a supportive network of colleagues who are understanding of family life and who all support and cover one another when personal things pop up. They’ve been really understanding when I’ve had to take time off for my children, particularly hospital visits with my son who has severe disabilities. I’ve been able to choose my hours and work in between the kid’s school times.
What was it that enabled you to get a promotion in such a short time?
I’d say really putting my all into it because I love my job so much. Plus the support, training and guidance by highly-skilled Devon Bluebirds
has helped make it happen.
What are you most excited about in your new Assistant Supervisor role?
I really can’t wait to meet all the other carers in East Devon. I’m also excited to meet more customers as I only really spent time with my regular customers when I was a Care Assistant. I’ve already started working on creating some of our customers’ care plans, and had the chance to go out and personally meet them and get to know them a bit, which was really nice.
