Partnerships in Care – Bluebird Care Wandsworth and Regenerate-RISE

Published: 22/05/2019

Providing excellent care services is all about partnership – and Bluebird Care Wandsworth has taken this further to forge partnerships in the wider community supporting groups like Regenerate-RISE.

The flexible, responsive home care services that we provide here in Wandsworth rely on many things – our excellent Care Assistants, great organisation behind the scenes, and above all, partnerships. We work in partnership with our customers and their families, healthcare professionals, community support workers and other organisations so that we can deliver care and support that reflects the individual preferences and needs of the customer.

Our partnerships do not just stop there. We are very much rooted in the community here in Wandsworth, and are always looking for opportunities to work with local groups and charities if we can help and support them. Our drive to partner with other organisations brought us into contact with Regenerate-RISE.

More about Regenerate-RISE
Regenerate-RISE is a charity that grew out of small projects to Reach out to the Isolated Elderly, the brainchild of Mo Smith and her son Andy. Originally a lunch club in Wandsworth’s second most deprived area, the Alton Estate, it soon started a second project in Putney following the closure of key community hub the Robert Joy Day Centre. Now 17 years on this inspiring charity operates from the Platt Christian Centre in Putney, reaching out to the elderly and isolated in Roehampton and Putney.   With a bold vision to put an end to loneliness across the UK amongst the older generation, Regenerate-RISE now also has projects in Ealing in London and in Nottingham and Sheffield.

An ambitious Re-ablement Project for Putney
Regenerate-RISE is not just about tackling day to day loneliness, although as we recognise in our #everyvisitcounts campaign, this is a vital part of the services the charity provides. The charity has an ambitious plan underway to create a ‘Re-ablement Centre’, constructed on the flat roof of the Platt Christian Centre.
At the core of this project is the determination to support older people after they have spent a period of time in hospital. Whatever the reason for the time in hospital – an emergency admission or a planned operation, it can sometimes have a detrimental impact on an individual’s ability to return home. As early as 2012, for example, a study commissioned by AgeUK highlighted the need for better care following discharge from hospital as one of the key factors in reducing the negative impact of a hospital stay on an older person.

The Re-ablement Centre planned by Regenerate-RISE will offer a ‘halfway house’ for those who have been discharged from hospital, helping them to regain their confidence and independence with the support of professionals and volunteers, until they can live back in the community. With ensuite bedrooms, TVs and excellent phone and internet connections to help every individual keep in touch with friends and family wherever they are, each resident will also have the support of a volunteer to take them out while they are staying at the centre, and who will continue to provide support once the individual has returned home.

Of course, such a project will not come cheap. Regenerate-RISE has a daunting fundraising target of £2,750,000. They’re almost half way to their target, with the aim of having all funds in place by the end of January 2018. The charity has a Just Giving page where it’s easy to make online donations, and we are keen to do our bit with some fundraising events which not only raise money but raise awareness about the valuable work of the charity.

Just last November, we hosted a fundraising Cake and Coffee Day, with all the money raised donated to Regenerate-RISE.  The cakes were baked by the office team and Care Assistants, and with the support from them, their families, our customers and neighbours we raised £117. More recently, over the weekend of 10/11th February 2017, the Bluebird Care team collected for Regenerate-RISE in Asda, Roehampton. It was a great opportunity to talk to people about the work of Regenerate-RISE and about the services we offer in Wandsworth.

We will  bring you news of future fundraising events through our website and social media channels. If you can support us – or our partners – in any way, get in touch!
