Communities Matter at Bluebird Care

At Bluebird Care Wakefield & Kirklees, we care deeply about our communities.

At Bluebird Care we care deeply about all our communities; our community of carers and customers, and the communities we all live in. Since we started providing care, we have always worked hard to raise as much money for our local communities as possible. We believe that one of our key values of respect and kindness is demonstrated in all that we do.

Below is an example of a few things we have done so far as a home care team.

Fundraising in Wakefield

Our first communal event of 2023 was a fundraiser for The Prince Of Wales Hospice. A couple of our office staff arranged a stall in the centre of Junction 32 Shopping Outlet, where we held a tombola with lots of lovely prizes up for grabs. Although it was quite a windy day, and we did lose a few of our raffle tickets, it was a nice day out for our office staff and an enjoyable experience for the shoppers who took a moment of their time to donate.

Bake Sale

Then in March, we then hosted a charity bake sale at St James the Great in Flockton. This was a great turn out with many members of the church as well as members of the public coming together to have a sit down, a nice hot drink, and a slice of cake. We also put together a general knowledge quiz for our guests, which they thoroughly enjoyed.

Time For a Cuppa

In May we hosted a Time For a Cuppa bake sale at our office in Wakefield. This was to raise funds for Dementia UK ahead of Dementia Action Week. We invited our customers, staff, and our neighbouring businesses to join us for a slice of cake and a chat. In the same week, we also attended a Baby and Children’s Market in Pontefract. We asked for donations from our lovely staff through social media and we sold them at very low prices to families. We sold books, toys, and clothes.

Pontefract Fun Day

A classic car show and family fun day event was held in Pontefract on May 29th, and we made it our mission to be a part of it. We had a tombola raffle with lots of prizes up for grabs – all proceeds were donated to The Prince Of Wales Hospice. We had a great time in Pontefract conversing with families and friendly faces. Although it did rain towards the end, it was a great day out for our office staff as well everyone else that attended.

Jubilee Afternoon Tea

To celebrate Her Majesty the Queen’s platinum jubilee, we decided to host an afternoon tea at our office. From 2pm until 4pm on Monday 30th May, our doors were open for anyone that wanted to join in with the festivities. Supported by We Are Wakefield, we decorated our office in union jack bunting, flags, and table cloths. We served delicious homemade food including wraps, sandwiches, crisps, cakes, biscuits, and mini scones.

Atendees included our own office staff, some of our lovely care staff and their families, our business partners, and even Mr David Dinmore MBE DL, Deputy Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, and his wonderful wife Lorna! Mr Dinmore complimented that our event was:

typical of the sort of community spirit that we enjoy in this country.

We also gave away some prizes during the afternoon, having collected raffle tickets from our guests at £1 per ticket. All donations for this were given directly to The Prince Of Wales Hospice, taking our total donations for this month to £242.
