Melanie Davies, Compassionate Care Award

Melanie joined us in February 2020 from a background in beauty, looking for a career change. Even though she had no care experience she very quickly became a valued member of the team – she has all the skills, enthusiasm, and heart that we look for in our care assistants.

Both customers and staff regularly note her compassion. Melanie builds exceptional relationships with her customers and is able to recognise concerns before they become too damaging.

Melanie was awarded the Compassionate Care Award for being simply that – compassionate. She has always demonstrated compassion, and it has never gone unnoticed. However, there is a particular time that we think really broadcasts this. Just recently, one of her regular customers was having health difficulties, but he was hiding it from his family as he did not want to worry them.

As she is his main carer, he confided in Melanie. She acted fast. With his permission, she immediately spoke to our office staff and, after receiving some support and guidance, she encouraged the customer to phone his GP to seek advice. This quick call led to the customer being admitted into hospital as a matter of urgency for heart tests.

Melanie’s compassion may have saved his life.

In 18months, Melanie has thrived as a Care Assistant. We are so proud to have her on our team.
