We've had a fun-filled year of success at Bluebird Care Wakefield and Kirklees!

Christmas is only a few days away, which means 2022 is almost at its end. At Bluebird Care Wakefield and Kirklees, we've had another spectacular year. Before the New Year hits and 2023 makes its appearance, we wanted to take a moment to reflect.

Fundraising

Community is key at Bluebird Care Wakefield and Kirklees, which is why we take pride in hosting and participating in fundraising events that support our community.

So, what fundraising events have we been part of this year?

The Prince of Wales Hospice

We have raised over £6,000 in aid of the hospice, enabling them to continue caring for their patients and their families. From tombolas and raffles to bake sales, Bluebird Care Wakefield and Kirklees have hosted many charitable events in honour of the hospice.

Most recently, we attended a Children's and Baby's Market. We collected clothes, books and toys from our customers and staff and sold them at lower prices at the market. Not only was this exceptionally helpful for families with lower budgets, but we donated the money we raised to The Prince of Wales Hospice. We also raised a sizeable amount of money for the hospice during our Jubilee afternoon tea in June this year.

100 Miles for Cancer Research

Owner and Director of Bluebird Care Wakefield and Kirklees, Narinder, walked 100 miles in aid of Cancer Research UK this year. Speaking on the subject, Narinder said:

I took on the challenge to not count my steps but ensure I walked 100 miles and raised money for much-needed cancer research. I have to say this was not easy, but I persevered, even on days when the rain would not stop. I am proud to have raised just over £300 for such a good cause.

Time For a Cuppa

Everyone at Bluebird Care Wakefield and Kirklees is a Dementia Friend. We advocate for and spread awareness of those living with dementia. As a Dementia Champion who has created over 200 Dementia Friend's, we think it's important to raise as much awareness of the disease as possible. This year, we hosted a Time For a Cuppa event at our office in Wakefield, with all proceeds donated to Dementia UK.

On top of this, we also donated lots of warm clothes, medicines, and pet and baby food to Ukraine; participated in the first-ever Wakefield Walkies event in aid of The Wakefield Hospice, and made many clothes donations to The Prince of Wales Hospice.

Proud Moments

We're always bursting with pride for our home care team. Our staff work exceptionally hard every day providing award-winning quality care to our customers.

Read below to find out what we're most proud of this year!

Employer of the Year

Bluebird Care Wakefield Kirklees is now the two-time winning Employer of the Year for Wakefield. We are so pleased to have been recognised for the positive and fair treatment of our employees as this is something we have always prioritised. Our care assistants enable us to do what we love - provide well-deserved home care to older and vulnerable adults - so we make sure we're looking after them as they look after our customers.

Our First In-house Awards

For the first time, Bluebird Care Wakefield and Kirklees hosted our first awards ceremony. We introduced three main categories: Carers Carer of the Year, Director's Employee of the Year and Most Complimented Carer of the Year. We wanted to show our employees how much we appreciate them by awarding them for their hard work.

A huge congratulations to:

Molly Raikes (Carers Carer of the Year winner),

Jayne Armitage (Most Complimented Carer of the Year),

and

Jessica Gaskell and Sharon Ucar who were nominated for the Bluebird Care Awards this year!

Thank you to our staff and customers for another spectacular year at Bluebird Care Wakefield and Kirklees. We hope you all have a lovely Christmas and wish you all the best for 2023!
