We hosted an afternoon tea at our office in Wakefield in honour of HM The Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

The team at Bluebird Care Wakefield & Kirklees are all so immensely pleased with how well received our jubilee celebration was!

In honour of HM The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, we wanted to host a small gathering for our staff, customers, and business partners. From 2pm – 4pm, our office doors were open to anyone that wanted to join us in celebrating. Thank you to the Original Factory Shop, based in S Elmsall for donating our balloon decorations.

Table set with food for platinum jubileeWe had tables full of a delicious homemade food including an assortment of tasty sandwiches and wraps, cupcakes, a Victoria sponge cake, and shortbread. Lorna, the Deputy Lieutenant of West Yorkshire’s lovely wife, complimented them as she said it was ‘just like [her] mother used to make’. We also provided snacks such as crisps and mini sausage rolls, with both vegetarian and gluten free options to make sure we catered to all our guests. Hot drinks – coffee and tea – were available for our guests and we also served cold juices.

But we didn’t just eat and drink. Our guests enjoyed a calm evening of chatter as they conversed with each other and our team. David Dinmore MBE DL, Deputy Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, gave a heartfelt speech about his thoughts on the event. He even said: ‘this is typical of the sort of community spirit that we enjoy in this country.’

The Prince of Wales Hospice at Bluebird Care Wakefield & KirkleesThroughout the afternoon, raffle tickets were sold to our guests. Prizes included a big box of ferrero rocher, two bottles of wine, and two beautiful hampers. We had many amazing donations, which we are more than proud to say we will be giving to The Prince of Wales Hospice. As a company, we have hosted many events in aid of The Prince of Wales Hospice. We are very passionate about the work they do for our community, so we are keen to help wherever we can. Just the day before our afternoon tea, Sunday 29th May, we attended a Fun Day in Pontefract, where we raised yet more funds for our beloved hospice. Previously, we have held bakes sales and raffles as well as participated in their ‘Bring a Bag to Work’ scheme, whereby we collect bags of used clothes and goods to be collected by the hospice – each bag is worth £20! Between our afternoon tea and our fun day, we have donated £242 to The Prince of Wales Hospice just this week! As said by our Employee Engagement Officer Jenny, ‘it is so important to us that we support our local charities and to show and share our community spirit! This event has enabled us to network with our fellow businesses while celebrating such a joyous occasion for our country.’

Throughout the course of the afternoon, we welcomed over 30 people into our office, including the Deputy Lieutenant of West Yorkshire and his beloved wife. Becky Taylor (a lovely lady from The Prince of Wales Hospice), our office team, numerous other close companies, and even a few of our ex-employees stopped by with their family members to enjoy the festivities. Claire Sutherley, Managing Director of We Are Wakefield, supported us throughout the entire event process from advertising to networking to setting up – thank you so much to Claire and her team!

Here are just a couple reviews we received from our guests:
