Bluebird Care Totton had an amazing result from their CQC inspection report back in March 2020! Our Totton branch gained an 'Outstanding' in the category of 'Well-led'!

On the 16th of March 2020, the day before entering lockdown for the COVID-19 prevention efforts, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) undertook an inspection of Bluebird Care Totton branch under management of Becca McMann.

This was her first inspection as a registered manager and she was able to improve the rating from overall ‘Good’ to gaining an ‘Outstanding’ rating in one of the five key areas, ‘Well-led’.

Becca manages a small team of caring and compassionate Totton carers who continued to work to an ‘Outstanding’ level through whatever circumstances were thrown at them. Becca and her team should be extremely proud of their achievements, and it is because of their dedication and teamwork that they continue to work through the COVID-19 period.


Bluebird Care Totton is one of four branches of Bluebird Care franchise owned by Hugo and Bernadette Mills. The first branch was set up in 2012 in Lymington, which covers the southern area of the New Forest. In 2016, the Totton branch was opened, to provide service for the Northern side of the New Forest. Over the years, several Bluebird Care franchises have achieved ‘Overall Outstanding’ ratings from the CQC, and Bluebird Care Totton aspires to achieve ‘Overall Outstanding’ in the future. 

The CQC report states some very good insight about how the branch operates, including ‘staff who are highly motivated and exceptionally well trained’ as well as a family member of a customer saying “I couldn’t ask for anything better either from the office team or the carers”. Achieving an overall ‘Good’ as well as an ‘Outstanding’ in the ‘Well-led’ inspection area by the CQC on the 16th of March 2020 is a huge achievement for the team which must not be understated.

The CQC is an independent regulator of health services here in England which assesses services according to their fundamental standards of quality and safety through the categories: ‘Well-led’, ‘Caring’, ‘Responsive’, ‘Effective’ and ‘Safe’.

Bluebird care Totton received ‘Good’ in Safe, Effective, Responsive and Caring and an ‘Outstanding’ in Well-led, which is an excellent achievement. 

The CQC investigation reported that the Bluebird Care Totton team was ‘extremely well-led and focused on maintaining and if possible improving high standards of care’, with carers who improve the lives of customers. In the CQC report, one person said their carers “often make their day”. Becca is a highly talented member of the Bluebird Care Totton team, whose leadership is impressive and we are pleased that she has had the opportunity to get this recognition through the CQC. The collaboration of Becca and her team is admirable and Bluebird Care is proud to have them on board.
