Afternoon Tea For Dementia Action Week

As part of our Dementia Action Week activity, we recently took a group of our live in customers and their Care Assistant out for afternoon tea at the Where Memories Meet cafe in Maidstone. The afternoon tea consisted of scones & jam, cakes, sandwiches and English breakfast tea to wash it all down. It certainly went down very well!

As part of our Dementia Action Week activity, we recently took a group of our live in customers and their Care Assistant out for afternoon tea at the Where Memories Meet cafe.

A number of our live in customers experience dementia and the afternoon tea created an opportunity for some of our customers who are living with dementia to enjoy some time out with customers who do not.

In addition, the event created a great opportunity for our Live in Care Assistants to enjoy some time together with their customers and colleagues. Office staff arranged lifts for those who required them in order that they could attend.

The afternoon tea consisted of scones & jam, cakes, sandwiches and English breakfast tea to wash it all down. It certainly went down very well!

Customer Frances who joined said:

I had a lovely time this afternoon and it was really good to have had a lift arranged as I would not have been able to attend without that.

I really tucked in and had three sandwiches, two cakes along with a scone as they were so delicious! I usually only attend appointments so this really made a difference.

Care Supervisor Debbie who took Live in Care Assistant Neshka and her customer Rosemary, who is living with dementia, explained:

I had a wonderful time yesterday and particularly have a liking for cake so it went down very well! I collected one of our customers along with her Care Assistant and both had a great time.

I think it is really important for those living with dementia to spend time with those who are not as this helps to see the person, not the dementia and everyone who joined had a great time!
