The seventeen residents voted unanimously to spend the winnings on a pub lunch outing at The Camden Arms - something they have never had the chance to do together before.

Charles Court is run by the Salvation Army Housing Association and provides sheltered housing for over 55’s. The £500 Grant will be spent on taxis to and from the Camden Arms in Pembury, as well as food and drink for the residents and staff later this month.

Nathan, Community Liaison Manager at Bluebird Care, awarded the grant to the delighted residents in the form of a giant cheque. He said,
We are passionate about making a difference to the lives of local people, and our Community Grant Scheme has been created to recognise and provide community groups and volunteers with much needed funds so they can continue their fantastic work.

Most people take a trip to the pub with their friends for granted. But for older people with limited mobility and support, a simple outing can be a real challenge. We’re thrilled to be able to help facilitate this through our Community Grant Scheme.
Resident Ena Dickinson, 93, used to run The Salvation Army in Gravesend with her late husband, 18 years ago. She has lived in accommodation at Charles Court for the last seven years.

It’s wonderful to live in a community with other people,” says Ena. “I came here straight after my husband died and it was the best thing I could have done.

I’m close to my sons who live in Kent and I never feel lonely with the other residents around. A lunch out together will be a real treat!
Louise Winn, Scheme Manager at Charles Court, said,
It’s so great for the residents to have a chance to get together and socialise outside the home. We’re all very excited!
Do you run or know of a local scheme that could benefit from extra funding? Our Community Grant Scheme awards £500 in April, July and October to local community and volunteer groups in Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells.
