Liz's Story
Live-in Care Helped Liz's Uncle Remain at Home
When an emergency left Liz questioning whether her uncle could continue managing at home, she turned to Bluebird Care for help. With live-in support in place, he was able to remain in his own home for an additional eight months.
The Bluebird carers have been able to help him to stay at home for an extra eight months.
Finding live-in care during an emergency
Liz first contacted Bluebird Care when her uncle's circumstances had become increasingly difficult.
At the time, she wasn't sure whether continuing with live-in care would still be possible.
Liz recalled:
I called them in an emergency, really thinking that he wasn’t able to cope with live in care any more.
When someone's care needs change, families can suddenly find themselves having to reconsider how and where their loved one receives support.
For Liz and her uncle, having the right professional care in place provided another option.
Eight more months in his own home
With live-in care supporting him, Liz's uncle was able to continue living at home for longer.
Liz explained:
The Bluebird carers have been able to help him to stay at home for an extra eight months.
Those additional eight months meant he could remain in his own familiar surroundings rather than having to make an immediate change to where he lived.
For Liz and her family, this was a clear and meaningful outcome from the support he received.
Supporting changing and more complex needs
Liz also highlighted the Care Experts' ability to support her uncle as his needs became more complex.
She said:
The carers have all been well trained, very pleasant and able to handle dementia type behaviours.
Having Care Experts who understand the individual and can respond appropriately can become particularly important as someone's needs change.
Liz described the live-in Care Experts who supported her uncle as:
Excellent.
Helping someone continue living at home
For some people with more substantial care needs, live-in care can provide a way to continue receiving support in familiar surroundings.
Care can be personalised around the individual, their circumstances, routines and preferences, with the level of support reviewed as their needs change.
In Liz's uncle's case, this support gave him something particularly valuable: more time in his own home.
