Staying active and socially connected becomes increasingly important as we get older. Spending time with others, maintaining hobbies and enjoying shared experiences all play a vital role in supporting mental wellbeing, confidence and overall quality of life.

Bluebird Care Taunton and Mid-Devon’s Mind and Motion events are designed to do exactly that. These friendly, welcoming social sessions bring customers and non customers together to chat, take part in activities, enjoy refreshments and simply have a fun, relaxed time in good company.

The Importance of Staying Social

Loneliness and isolation can have a significant impact on both mental and physical wellbeing, particularly for older people. Regular social interaction helps boost mood, maintain confidence and support cognitive health.

Mind and Motion events create a space where people can connect, share experiences and enjoy meaningful conversations. Whether someone comes along to meet new people, reconnect with hobbies or simply enjoy a change of scenery, these sessions offer something for everyone.

Spending time together helps:

  • Boost mood and wellbeing
  • Encourage confidence and independence
  • Reduce feelings of loneliness
  • Support mental stimulation
  • Create meaningful connections

Even small moments of connection can make a big difference.

Keeping Minds Active Through Hobbies

Mind and Motion sessions are not just about conversation. They are about keeping minds active and encouraging creativity through a range of engaging activities.

These may include:

  • Arts and crafts
  • Playing board games
  • Card games
  • Music and playing instruments
  • Group conversations and storytelling
  • Gentle activities and movement
  • Seasonal themed events

Maintaining hobbies and learning new skills supports mental stimulation, improves hand eye coordination and helps keep minds active. These activities also bring a sense of enjoyment, achievement and the positive endorphins that come from spending time with others.

A Warm, Welcoming Environment

Bluebird Care Taunton and Mid-Devon’s Mind and Motion events are open to everyone. Customers, families, friends and members of the local community are all welcome.

These relaxed, friendly sessions offer:

  • A welcoming social environment
  • Tea, coffee and refreshments
  • Fun and engaging activities
  • Opportunities to meet new people
  • A chance to maintain hobbies and interests

Whether someone attends regularly or joins occasionally, everyone is welcomed and encouraged to take part at their own pace.

Volunteers Wanted

Bluebird Care Taunton and Mid-Devon are currently looking for volunteers to help support and run these sessions. Volunteers play an important role in creating a welcoming environment and helping activities run smoothly.

Volunteering at Mind and Motion events is a rewarding opportunity to:

  • Make a real difference in the community
  • Help reduce loneliness and isolation
  • Support meaningful activities
  • Meet new people
  • Be part of a friendly, supportive team

Whether you can offer a little time or regular support, your help can make a real difference.
