Staying active is one of the most important ways to support mobility, independence and overall wellbeing as we get older. Gentle movement and regular social interaction can make a significant difference to both physical and mental health, helping people maintain confidence, flexibility and connection within their community.

This week, Bluebird Care Taunton and Mid-Devon’s HR Consultant, Beverley, hosted a Flow Motion seated exercise class at Foxglove Place, bringing residents together for a fun, engaging session focused on movement, wellbeing and social connection.

The class forms part of Bluebird Care’s wider commitment to supporting older people not only through home care services, but through community initiatives that encourage healthier, happier and more active lifestyles.

Helping Residents Stay Active and Independent

Flow Motion seated exercise classes are designed to support people of all mobility levels through gentle, accessible movement. These sessions focus on improving flexibility, coordination, circulation and overall wellbeing in a safe and supportive environment.

For many older people, maintaining mobility is key to preserving independence and confidence in everyday life. Even gentle exercise can help improve balance, strengthen muscles and support long term physical health.

The session at Foxglove Place gave residents the opportunity to:

  • Enjoy gentle seated movement exercises
  • Improve mobility and flexibility
  • Support coordination and circulation
  • Socialise and connect with others
  • Boost mood and wellbeing through activity

Alongside the physical benefits, these classes also create valuable opportunities for social interaction and community engagement.

Supporting Wellbeing Through Community Activities

At Bluebird Care Taunton and Mid-Devon, supporting wellbeing goes beyond traditional care services. Activities like Flow Motion help encourage social connection, confidence and enjoyment through shared experiences.

Classes like these can have a hugely positive impact on mental wellbeing, helping reduce feelings of isolation while creating an enjoyable, welcoming environment where people can stay active together.

Beverley’s session at Foxglove Place was filled with laughter, conversation and encouragement, helping residents feel comfortable, involved and supported throughout.

More Classes Planned Throughout the Year

Following the success of this week’s session, Beverley will be hosting more Flow Motion seated exercise classes throughout the year as part of Bluebird Care Taunton and Mid-Devon’s ongoing community wellbeing initiatives.

These sessions reflect Bluebird Care’s commitment to helping older people remain active, engaged and connected within their local communities.

By combining movement, wellbeing and social interaction, Flow Motion classes provide a positive and accessible way for residents to support both their physical and mental health.
