Funding of Care
Here at Bluebird Care Tamworth, Lichfield, Nuneaton & North Warwickshire we provide care and support to a large number of self-funding customers but we can also accept people who receive funding through certain council services such as Staffordshire and Warwickshire County Councils, CCG's and certain Mental Health services. Planning and paying for care can be a daunting prospect. We have put together some useful information about the funding of care.
Self-Funded Care
Many people choose to fund their own care privately, particularly if their financial circumstances mean they are not eligible for local authority support.
Self-funded care allows individuals and families greater flexibility when choosing the type and level of support that best suits their needs. Care can be arranged directly with a provider, allowing services to be tailored around personal routines, preferences and changing care requirements.
Home care services can include support such as:
Personal care
Assistance with daily routines
Medication reminders
Companionship and social support
Help around the home
Self-funding can offer families greater control over the care that is provided and how it is delivered.
Local Authority Funding
In some cases, individuals may be eligible for financial support from their local authority to help cover the cost of care.
The local council will usually carry out two assessments:
Care Needs Assessment
This assessment determines the type and level of care required based on an individual’s health and well-being needs.
Financial Assessment (Means Test)
The council will review financial circumstances to determine whether an individual is eligible for financial support and how much they may need to contribute toward the cost of care.
For residents in Tamworth and Lichfield, assessments are typically arranged through Staffordshire County Council Adult Social Care services and for Nuneaton and North Warwickshire residents, it is North Warwickshire County Council to contact.
NHS Continuing Healthcare
In some situations, individuals with complex or long-term health needs may qualify for NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC) funding.
NHS Continuing Healthcare is fully funded by the NHS and may cover the cost of care for people whose primary needs are health-related. Eligibility is determined through a detailed assessment process carried out by healthcare professionals.
This type of funding can apply to care delivered at home, in a care home or in another care setting.
Attendance Allowance
Attendance Allowance is a benefit available to individuals over State Pension age who need help with personal care or supervision due to illness or disability.
This benefit is not means-tested and may help contribute toward the cost of care or additional support at home.
Attendance Allowance is paid at two different rates depending on the level of support required.
