Caring for someone you love is an experience that can change your perspective on life. For our new Bluebird Care ambassador, Natalie Cassady, it was an experience that inspired a deeper understanding of the care profession.

Known to millions as Sonia Fowler in Eastenders, Natalie has a personal connection to the challenges families can face when a loved one needs additional support.

Caring for a loved one at home

Natalie cared for her father at home towards the end of his life, following his dementia diagnosis.

At the time, she was also balancing her acting career and raising her two young children.

Like many families who find themselves in a caring role, Natalie experienced first-hand some of the emotional and practical challenges involved in supporting someone close to you.

Her experience gave her an appreciation of how important care, understanding and support can be, not only for the person receiving care but also for the people around them.

Taking her interest in care further

Rather than allowing her experience to end there, Natalie decided to learn more about the care sector.

She enrolled on a Level 3 course in health and social care and went on to explore different aspects of caring through her BCC documentary series, Natalie Cassidy: Caring Together.

During the series, Natalie trained as a carer in a variety of settings, including children’s services and palliative care.

This gave her the opportunity to learn more about the different environments in which care professionals work and the important role they play in supporting others.

Why this matters to Bluebird Care

At Bluebird Care, we understand that care is about so much more than practical assistance.

It’s about recognising each person as an individual, understanding what matters to them and helping them continue to live the life they want.

Natalie’s personal experience reflects the importance of this approach and makes her a wonderful ambassador for our organisation.

Through this partnership, we hope to encourage more conversations about caring, highlight the importance of quality support and celebrate the people who dedicate their working lives to helping others.

If you or a loved one could benefit from care at home, Bluebird Care Sussex Weald is here to help. Contact our team to find out more about the support available.
