Si King Sees First-Hand What Good Care Really Looks Like
We've had some wonderful moments as a team over the years, but last week was truly one for the books. Geordie legend and former Hairy Biker Si King paid a visit to our Bluebird Care head office — and what a visit it was.
Si, who is a brand ambassador for Bluebird Care, came to support the national launch of the Good Care Guide campaign, a movement close to his heart for deeply personal reasons. Having recently appeared on Good Morning Britain to highlight the campaign to a national audience, Si has well and truly put good care on the map — and we were thrilled to be part of it. Inspired by the care his own mum received in her later years, and by his experience supporting his beloved friend and fellow Hairy Biker Dave Myers, Si has thrown his weight behind a campaign that's all about starting honest conversations around care — before a crisis forces the conversation.
He didn't just pop in for a cup of tea, either. Si met the team, heard their stories, and even joined them on a home visit — experiencing first-hand the dedication and warmth that our home care team in Sunderland and Durham bring to their work every single day.
Si spoke openly about why this matters so much to him:
"It is so distressing when we as a family... we were kind of lucky, because we lived within an 18-mile radius of mum. We were all there to help, but when her care, and she so wanted to stay in her little house, and there was certain elements of care that we couldn't do as a family, we didn't know where to go."
He went on to explain that this uncertainty — not knowing how to arrange care or what it costs — is exactly why the Good Care Guide exists. As Si put it:
"Life brings you things like this, and Bluebird were great actually… and they just said, 'look Si, will you help us start this conversation?' — which is exactly why I got involved in the campaign, because of mum and Dave and others that I've looked after too."
His message to everyone was simple and powerful: start the conversation now, while you can.
"You've got to start the conversation. I started mine about 10 years ago… I want to stay at home as long as I possibly can, equally, I don't want to be a burden."
Our director Angus McLellan was absolutely delighted to welcome Si:
"Having Si King with us in the office was a real privilege. His passion for community, good food, and genuine human connection mirrors everything we strive for at Bluebird Care. He brings an energy that reminds our teams why the work we do matters, and his support as our brand ambassador strengthens our commitment to delivering high quality care with heart, dignity, and joy."

A huge thank you is also due to our incredible team leader Liz, who helped make the day run so smoothly and whose dedication to the people in her care is a shining example of everything this campaign stands for. And of course, a heartfelt thank you to our fantastic customer who generously agreed to take part in the campaign — opening their home and welcoming Si in, so he could see for himself what truly good care looks like in practice. Your kindness and trust means everything to us.
