Real moments, real people at Bluebird Care Stratford & Warwick
Jenny and Alan have shared a life filled with companionship and quiet strength. When dementia became part of their journey, they were determined to stay together in the home they love. Here is their wonderful love story.
Staying together at home: Jenny and Alan’s story
When Jenny first met Alan, she remembers thinking he was “a nice, chatty guy” and she was surprised he was the one interested in her. From that first conversation, their life together began.
Years later, that same warmth and companionship still defines their relationship. But when Alan was diagnosed with dementia, life began to change. Like many couples, they were determined to stay together in the place they love most, their home.
A nice, chatty guy and just like that
Four walls. infinite meaning
For Jenny and Alan, home is more than just four walls.
“It’s safety,” Jenny says. “It’s comforting to have a roof over our heads when so many people don’t.”
Their home overlooks beautiful views that bring calm when it’s needed most. The birds, the flowers, the feeling of being in the countryside, “it just livens you to see colour,” Jenny explains. It’s where friends are nearby. It’s where memories live. It’s where they belong.
The thought of leaving that behind was unimaginable.
Love does not clock off
At first, the idea of having care at home felt daunting. Alan had never had care before, and Jenny had been managing everything herself.
“It was tricky,” she admits. “I was concerned for Alan. I was still able to cope, but I was tired.”
Like many family carers, Jenny carried on because that’s what you do for someone you love. But exhaustion can quietly build and everyone needs support sometimes.

A little help. a lot more light
That’s where Bluebird Care Stratford & Warwick came in.
With care a couple of days a week, things began to feel different. Lighter.
“What feels easier?” Jenny smiles. “The carers brighten my day. Someone to talk to, everyone is so lovely.”
For Alan, having friendly, familiar faces supporting him has meant he can continue living in the home he knows and feels safe in. For Jenny, it means she can step out, run errands, meet friends, or simply take a breather, knowing Alan is in caring, capable hands.
Care at home hasn’t changed their relationship. It’s helped protect it.
Instead of feeling overwhelmed, Jenny feels supported. Instead of isolation, there’s companionship. Instead of facing everything alone, there’s a team around them.
Still their story. still home
When asked what she would say to another couple considering care, Jenny doesn’t hesitate:
“Do it. It’s a very good plan and it helps so much. It cheers you up.”
Still us, still home, still keeping life our own
For Jenny and Alan, care at home isn’t just about practical support. It’s about staying together. Staying safe. Staying in the place filled with birdsong, flowers, colour, and memories.
It’s about continuing their story at home.
