Support in Hitchin, Letchworth and Royston

There are a variety of community and support services available across North Hertfordshire. Memory Support Hertfordshire and the Alzheimer’s Society's local service finder are good starting points if you're looking for a group, activity or advice service close to home.

Caring Herts CIC also operates Wellbeing Hubs across Hitchin, Letchworth and Royston, alongside Stevenage, providing opportunities for older people to meet others, take part in activities and access support.

Local support can make a difference

For someone living with dementia, staying connected to familiar people, places and activities can be an important part of living well. Support groups and community activities can also give family members and unpaid carers an opportunity to meet others who understand what they are experiencing.

Support for unpaid carers

Caring for someone with dementia can be rewarding, but it can also be challenging. It's important that family carers look after themselves too and know where they can turn for advice and support.

The Alzheimer’s Society can provide information about caring strategies, accessing social care and remaining independent, while its local service finder can help identify support groups and other services.

If caring responsibilities are becoming difficult to manage, it may also be worth exploring whether additional support at home could help.

Hertfordshire County Council support

Hertfordshire County Council provides information about day services and activities, including services for older people and adults living with dementia. Its website also provides access to the Hertfordshire Directory, which can help people find other local organisations and services.

This can be a useful starting point if you're looking for practical or community-based support.

Dementia care at home

For many people, being able to remain in familiar surroundings is extremely important. Home care can provide additional support while helping someone maintain their routines, independence and connection to their community.

At Bluebird Care Stevenage & North Herts, our Care Experts provide person-centred support tailored to each customer's individual needs and preferences. This can include companionship, personal care, support with meals and everyday activities, and helping someone continue to do the things that matter to them.

As needs change, care can be reviewed and adapted so that support continues to be appropriate.

You're not alone

Whether you're looking for information following a diagnosis, searching for activities for someone living with dementia, supporting a loved one as an unpaid carer or beginning to explore care at home, help is available.

We recommend checking directly with each organisation for the latest information, availability, eligibility and opening times, as local services can change.
