Well done to two members of our team – Mel Neil and Samantha Reeder, who went beyond the call of duty and helped a person in need after office hours.

Monday evening Mel and Samantha were working late in the Bluebird Care Southend & Rochford office when an elderly gentleman entered, who clearly presented with dementia, seeking help as he was lost.

Mr C was diagnosed with dementia last year and has refused all care services offered to him, and doesn’t have a social worker in place. Mel and Samantha tried to contact care line to see if he was registered with them in the hope of receiving some assistance but to no avail.

Afterward Mel and Samantha tried to contact Mr C’s family members, only to find out that his nearest relatives lived almost 2 half hours away.

Commenting, Mel Neil, said:

Personally I couldn’t let this gentleman leave the shop this evening on his own, in the cold and clearly oblivious to his location. All in all this gentleman is a very vulnerable person and hopefully he will be ok once he’s been collected.  I have given my details, and those of the Bluebird Care Southend & Rochford office to the police, and have let them that if there is anything else that I need to do to let me know.”
The ladies made contact with Essex Police, who are sending someone out to Mr C and hopefully he will be looked after in the best way.

Essex Police PC Chris Busby, has now collected the gentleman, and his referral to Social Services is being made.

Commenting, Operations Manager of Bluebird Care Southend & Rochford, Tracey Heming said:

Thank you both for all you have done for this gentleman tonight. I think you both have certainly gone over and above this evening to ensure a vulnerable person gets home safe and sound.”
James King, Care Manager of Bluebird Care Southend & Rochford, added:

I want to say a big thank you to Mel and Samantha for going beyond their personal job roles tonight. It just shows the type of people we have as a collective within Bluebird Care Southend & Rochford. As an office the girls are constantly busy, but we as a care company are never too busy to help and go beyond and we cannot thank the girls enough for what they done for Mr C.”
