Great success with our latest CQC inspection!
In March 2020, our branch received a CQC inspection and we improved our result to one 'Outstanding' in the Caring category, leading to an 'Overall Good' CQC rating!
Just a few weeks before the beginning of a national lockdown, Bluebird Care Southampton received news of an inspection that would be taking place on the 3rd and 4th of March by the Care Quality Commissions (CQC). Bluebird Care Southampton is one of four branches of the Bluebird Care franchise and is under the management of Leanne Clamp. For Leanne alongside her team of ‘super’ carers who ‘can’t be faulted’ to have gained an ‘Overall Good’ with an ‘Outstanding’ rating in the key category of ‘Caring’ is an amazing result.
The CQC is an independent regulator of Health Care services in England. Their inspectors assess home care services according to the five fundamental standards of ‘Safety’, ‘Caring’, ‘Responsive’, ‘Well-led’ and ‘Effectiveness’. Having such limited time to prepare for such an important and highly acknowledged inspection, the outcome is an excellent result from previous CQC rating overall Good. To achieve an “Outstanding” in Caring is amazing and it really highlights the strength of the Southampton branch’s teamwork as well as their ability to maintain a caring and positive attitude! It is also important to acknowledge the timing of such an important inspection - the world has been hit by a wave of uncertainty by Covid19, as to when or whether companies will ever be able to function in the same way again. It is amidst all the chaos and confusion of enormous PPE funding costs and customers going into self-isolation that the Bluebird Care Southampton team was still able to achieve an ‘Outstanding’ result, and we are very proud of them.
Bluebird Care is a care service provider of both live-in and home care for those in need. The Bluebird Care franchise is owned by Hugo and Bernadette Mills, who have been the owners since 2012. They began the first branch of the Bluebird Care franchise in Lymington in 2012, which was followed by the Southampton branch in 2014. Through the years, multiple Bluebird Care branches have received ‘Outstanding’ ratings from the CQC including Bluebird Care Newforest which obtained ‘Outstanding’ in two of the five fundamental categories which is an exceptional achievement! In the future, Bluebird Care Southampton aims to improve these already impressive results to match and go beyond the results of other branches.
The CQC reported from this investigation that the Bluebird Care Southampton team was ‘exceptionally caring’ and that ‘staff supported them [customers] in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests’. The CQC inspection provides detailed insight into the operation of Bluebird Care Southampton and commented particularly on the team’s registered managed Leanne ‘People spoke highly of the registered manager. One person said, "The manager is very good. She says if there is anything else we can do, let me know.". The CQC focuses its inspection on those who receive personal care, particularly on the five fundamental qualities of a care service, and for Leanne and her team to have achieved an ‘Outstanding’ is truly excellent.
The CQC also highlighted a very special action in which all Bluebird Care franchises carry out for one particular customer each month - the monthly ‘Sparkle’, the CQC wrote ‘Each month care staff picked a person for the monthly "sparkle", a treat that went above and beyond their normal care and was individual to the person. Examples included birthday celebrations, a meal out, and flowers.
It is due to the teamwork of ‘staff in all roles who were highly motivated and offered care and support that was exceptionally compassionate and kind’ that such a result was achieved, and we are so proud to have such a dedicated team who stayed focused during such difficult times.
