The team at Bluebird Care South Gloucestershire has welcomed Kathryn McCormack as their new Clinical Lead Nurse – making them the only home care provider in the area to employ such a senior clinically trained Nurse.
Kathryn joins the team after more than two decades of service in the NHS, where she held a senior position as a Diabetes Specialist Nurse at Bristol Royal Infirmary.
Kathryn’s journey into nursing was not pre-determined. Growing up, she had dreams of becoming an air hostess, but it wasn’t until her late teens, while working in a call centre, that she felt drawn to the healthcare profession.
At the age of 19, Kathryn made the leap to join the NHS as a healthcare assistant. Her passion for patient care quickly grew, leading her to enrol at the University of the West of England, where she earned her nursing diploma, and later completed her degree.
Reflecting on her career, Kathryn credits her great-grandmother, Molly, for being a key inspiration. Molly was a nurse who served as a colonel in the Indian army during World War II, caring for wounded soldiers in makeshift hospitals.
Despite her love for the NHS, after 20 years of service, Kathryn felt it was time for a change. In her new role at Bluebird Care, Kathryn is eager to bridge the gap between health and social care. With her extensive clinical background, she is uniquely positioned to lead the company’s pioneering approach to providing complex, nurse-led treatments directly in the homes of customers. This includes support for those with conditions such as diabetes, as well as the ability to perform invasive procedures and offer more complex care services.
Beyond her clinical work, Kathryn is dedicated to building connections within the local community. On October 4th, she will be participating in a fundraiser for Paul's Place, a charity that enhances life for those physically disabled, taking part in a "jail break" event with fellow Bluebird Care manager Megan Harries.
With Kathryn’s appointment, Bluebird Care becomes the only home care provider in South Gloucestershire to have a Band 7 Registered Nurse on staff, strengthening their position as the leading provider of home care in the region.
Kathryn McCormack, Clinical Lead Nurse at Bluebird Care South Gloucestershire said:
“My great-grandmother’s dedication and compassion inspired me deeply, and my grandfather’s service in the RAF reinforced my belief of making a difference in people’s lives. Bluebird Care’s compassion to their customers and commitment to exceptional care immediately drew me in.
I’m excited to embark on this new journey with Bluebird Care South Gloucestershire, making sure our customers can live happy and fulfilling lives from the comfort of their homes. Whether in the NHS or private sector, my approach to nursing remains the same: providing person-cantered care that respects each individual's dignity. I’m thrilled to join a team that shares these values.”
