World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is an annual event organised by specialist organisation Action on Elder Abuse (AEA), to raise awareness and funds for those individuals who need our support. With over 500,000 older people being abused in the UK every year, AEA run a helpline as well as peer support programmes, encouraging people to seek the help they need.  The organisation aims to create a society which values older people and focus on the issue of elder abuse.

The event which brought together the care organisations of Solihull, showcased people dressed up in purple as well as having purple cakes. Solihull was painted purple in support of the campaign, hoping to end violence and abuse towards elder people.

Director of Bluebird Care Solihull, Steve Tarpey, commented;

The team at Bluebird Care Solihull were more than happy to support Age UK and our local council by attending this event. It is important that we as a community raise awareness of this organisation and the support services they can provide to vulnerable people. We managed to raise £52 on the day, which hopefully can help provide support to an individual”.
