'After 27 years in banking, Maxine was looking for something different...' - Maxine's story (July 2018)

Maxine, from Aldershot, talks about working for one of the UK’s biggest banks, and how after 27 years she was looking for a change and turned to a career in care.
 
Maxine Phipps joined the banking industry at 16 years old - but after almost 30 years in finance, she decided that she wanted a change and had developed a passion for delivering great customer service.
 
Maxine commented: “I wanted to help people, to put people’s needs first and Bluebird Care offered that personal customer service approach that I was looking for.” 
 
Maxine decided to join Bluebird Care Rushmoor & Surrey Heath in 2014, it was her first interview in 27 years.
 
“One of my favourite memories at Bluebird Care was being offered the job.  I didn’t expect to get it, so this was a big morale booster for me!” 
 
Maxine realised that she wanted a career to develop in, not just a job. She found that Bluebird Care offered NVQs and diplomas to further careers in care. Starting as a Care Administrator, Maxine achieved various qualifications and soon became Recruitment Co-ordinator too.
 
Maxine has advice for those considering a career in home care:
 
“Bluebird Care really are an ‘equal opportunities’ employer, they are open to anyone and everyone. The hours are flexible, so you can work around timings that suit you.”
 
The key factor for Maxine staying with Bluebird Care so long has been the people she works for. She said:
 
“I really like the Managing Directors Scott and Fiona, they treat everyone with respect and are incredibly understanding. The team at the office also help and support each other. I didn’t have that whilst working in a bank. 
 
People truly care about each other here!” 
 
When asked about being a staff member at Bluebird Care, Maxine said that the most rewarding aspect of the job, was the independence the company offers; the freedom and trust to deliver great customer service.
 
“I really enjoy helping our customers to stay in their own homes, it gives them their own independence and a better quality of life. I want to ensure that we provide the very best homecare, as if it were my parents we were looking after.”
