Aidan works in the community supporting our customers throughout the week and has been part of the team here for just over six months.

He had never worked in care before, however as with all of our new staff he completed his induction and shadowing to equip him for the role.

We would like to thank Aidan for sharing his #ILoveMyCareer story with us. He explained:

Before working as a Care Assistant I spent seven years working in a cafĂ© on Camber Beach and whilst I did enjoy it, often the hours in the winter were minimal because the business was seasonal.

In the summer it also got quite hot, however I did get the opportunity to speak with lots of people every day as well as getting to know some regular customers.

I kind of decided that I wanted to start considering a career where I was able to get a little more job fulfilment than flipping burgers and making coffee and after a short stint in a local supermarket I happened to pop into the Bluebird Care office.

I only popped in to drop off a letter for someone, but when I met the manager she suggested I apply for a role. My mum works as a carer and I thought that it may actually be something I would really enjoy.

Well, I got the job and it certainly is different to anything I have done before. On the day I started my shadowing, I knew it was for me within the first 10 seconds of my first day shadowing!

I know that I am able to help people and through this make a real difference to their lives. People say that being a male Care Assistant can sometimes be challenging, however I have not found this to be the case. My customers are always happy with me when I visit!

As I had never worked in care before, Bluebird Care provided me with all of the training and support that I needed to carry out my role. The training was really good and gave me an excellent start!

I am so happy that I made this decision. Yes, sometimes days can be a bit stressful, but it is so incredibly rewarding putting a smile on people's faces each day!

If, like Aidan, you would like to start your career in care, we would like to hear from you. We are a very supportive and friendly team here at Bluebird Care Rother & Hastings and to find out more, please phone 01797 225 797 or email rother.hastings@bluebirdcare.co.uk.
