A rough sleeping event to raise money for charity took place on Friday, 19 November, at the Crown Oil Arena in Rochdale.

The night saw Directors, Beryl and John Keogh plus volunteers from across the community rough it for the night to raise funds for Dale in the Community Sports Trust and Helping Homeless Veterans UK.

Beryl said "Whilst it won't be particularly enjoyable the cause is worth that small period of discomfort.  We often take for granted our warm bed and creature comforts of home and means we remember those less fortunate than us"

Speaking about the charities Beryl added "They both are close to our hearts as my husband is ex military and we also sponsor some of the Rochdale Community Trust sides so it was really a no brainer to support this event"

The volunteers were grateful for food on the night being provided by the Flying Horse Hotel and breakfast was also included.

All volunteers did have minimal kit, such as a sleeping bag and some cardboard that insulated them from the cold concrete of the Crown Oil Arena stands.

Around 25 people braved the elements at the Crown Oil Arena on the night of 19 November, where temperatures had fallen to single digits.
