Joanna & Bruce: A Bluebird Love Story

It's Valentines' Day, a day for celebrating the love between two people.

At Bluebird Care Richmond & Twickenham, we love a good love story, and we have our own that we would love to share with you. 

Care Supervisor Joanna Bycul met her future husband, Bruce, over eight years ago when they joined Bluebird Care Richmond & Twickenham team. Joanna joined in 2012, and less than a year later, in 2013, Bruce began his role as a carer.

The couple started as just friends, working together on regular double-up shifts. With over 30 years of care experience combined, the two made a fantastic team, and Joanna noticed some really caring qualities in Bruce. 

" We had a few challenging customers on our double upshifts, but I liked how Bruce never gave up on them; he always cared for them and tried his best."

After a year, on Bruce's birthday, Joanna took Bruce to a famous Polish restaurant in Ealing, and they had a great time. After that, Bruce started taking Joanna on more dates until they made it official with an announcement to the team at the Bluebird Care Richmond & Twickenham’s' Christmas Party 2013. 

Around four years after they met, on one of their trips to Poland to visit Joanna's family, Bruce got down on one knee and proposed in front of Joanna's family. 

"It was a lovely and special moment. Bruce even gave my mum a bouquet of roses." 

Even though Bruce left the company in 2017 to pursue care in the mental health sector, he remains in touch with the team, and Joanna is still a much-loved team member. 

This love story isn't ending as they are now in the process of making wedding arrangements, and the ceremony will be taking place in their special place, Poland.
