This year Bluebird Care Reigate is supporting AF Aware Week 2016 which runs from the 21-27 November 2016, with the key message of Detect, Protect, Correct and Perfect.

According to the AF Association Atrial Fibrillation is the most common irregular heart rhythm. Current figures show over 1 million individuals across the UK are affected, however this figure does not account for those who are yet to be diagnosed.

AF Aware Week is about raising awareness of Atrial Fibrillation (AF). Organised by the AF Association, this year focuses on the four simple steps individuals can take to correct irregular heart rhythm and protect against AF related stokes.

The aims of AF Aware Week 2016 are simple:

  • Detect - AF by a simple pulse check
  • Protect - against AF-related stroke using anticoagulation therapy (not aspirin),
  • Correct - the irregular rhythm with access to appropriate treatment
  • Perfect - the patient care pathway

The AF Association is encouraging organisations and individuals to display and share information about AF in local centres that provide support and information to communities. The more people the information reaches, the more people we can help in our society.

Commenting, Paul Barry, director of Bluebird Care Reigate said;

Atrial Fibrillation is something that should be taken seriously and is more common in those aged 65. At Bluebird Care Reigate we are supporting this awareness week within our local community. The four steps that are being promoted in this campaign show how simple it is to check for symptoms and to get treatment, so we need to be encouraging everyone in our community to check for these and receive help and support where required”.
