Covid-19 forced a different approach to the tradition of the Macmillan Coffee morning fundraiser, but Bluebird Care was determined. Raising over £200!
Bluebird Care’s offices in Stamford & Rutland and Bluebird Care Peterborough & Oundle along with their custoemrs have raised over £ 200 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
The team have been taking part in Macmillan’s annual World Biggest Coffee Morning for the last six years. However, Covid-19 has meant that these events were not possible this year due to social distancing measures. Determined to continue their fundraising tradition, Bluebird Care Stamford & Rutland and Bluebird Care Peterborough & Oundle sold home-baked cakes to passers-by, friends and colleagues at an outdoor cake stall.
With various delicious treats available, including cookies, brownies and fruit-loaf, the home care provider was able to raise a significant amount of money to help Macmillan’s cancer support services.
Bluebird Care Stamford & Rutland and Bluebird Care Peterborough & Oundle’s innovative fundraising technique also went one step further to deliver cakes to customers who were unable to visit the stall. Customers were given the opportunity to order an Afternoon Tea Box in return for a £5 donation to Macmillan. These Boxes included freshly baked scones, fresh sandwiches, cakes and savoury snacks and received 18 orders from generous customers.
Leisa MacKenzie, Owner and Director of Bluebird Care Stamford & Rutland and Bluebird Care Peterborough & Oundle, and Karen Andic, Accounts Manager at the home care’s offices, then took it upon themselves to personally deliver the first batch of orders to customers.
Speaking of their Cake Away success, Leisa MacKenzie said:
“It was wonderful to see so many people helping us to make a difference by getting involved and supporting such a great cause. Everyone was thrilled with their treats. Most of us have been or are affected by cancer in some way or form, losing family, friends, customers or suffering ourselves, so supporting this charity is immensely important for the whole Bluebird Care family.
“Every year we support Macmillan and we were determined to not let Covid-19 stop us this time around as we know how charities have suffered during the pandemic. It’s been lovely to be involved in delivering the Afternoon Tea Boxes because, for some, our delivery was a visit that they wouldn’t normally have had, bringing cheer during the lonelier times of Covid-19.”
Mrs Young, a Bluebird Care customer who received an Afternoon Tea Box, said:
“It was fantastic and a real highlight to my week. Due to Covid-19, I am very worried about going out so this was a welcome gift and a lovely treat. It was a lovely way of raising money and doing something. I have had contact with Macmillan myself so I was glad to help and support them.”
Mrs Lambert, another customer of Bluebird Care, said:
“This was such a great idea and such a good way of doing this. The little box of ten things were delicious. I loved the sandwiches and it took me two days to eat all the treats. I really appreciated the effort made by Bluebird Care. Macmillan is important to me as they are helping my daughter at the moment, so I was very happy to help.”
