On Friday, 31st July 2026, we were delighted to welcome PC Jo Barlow from the Economic Crime Unit at Northamptonshire Police to our Memory Lane Café at the Abbey Centre.
PC Barlow gave an informative and engaging talk about fraud prevention and cyber security, sharing practical advice to help our café members, families and carers stay safe from scams.
We all use the internet in our daily lives. We have passwords to remember, receive phone calls and emails, shop online and use smartphones and other devices. Unfortunately, scams and fraudulent activity are becoming increasingly common, and it can sometimes be difficult to know whether a message or phone call is genuine.
The session provided useful tips on how to:
- Spot suspicious phone calls, emails and messages and recognise some of the warning signs of a scam.
- Protect yourself from fraud and scams by taking a few simple precautions.
- Stay safe online, including being careful about the information we share and the links we click.
- Know what to do if you think you have been targeted, including taking action quickly and seeking help.
The talk was a valuable opportunity to ask questions, share experiences and learn more about how we can protect ourselves and those around us from becoming victims of fraud.
