There are birthdays, and then there are birthdays. Reaching 100 years of age is a milestone few of us will know. A century of history lived, of change witnessed, of love given and received. It was our absolute privilege at Bluebird Care North Tyneside to be part of such an extraordinary occasion, as we visited one of our wonderful customers to help him celebrate his 100th birthday in style.
Joining him for the celebration were his son and daughter, two of his much-loved carers, Derek and Alan, as well as Kate from our office team. A small but warm gathering that felt every bit as meaningful as the occasion deserved. Gold balloons spelling out "100" filled the room, party hats were donned, and we all enjoyed a slice of the lovely cream cake (terribly decorated by Kate)!
Derek, Mr. V's main carer said:
"I've been caring for Mr V for a few years now and seeing him everyday brings me so much happiness. Being able to share his 100th birthday with him is an honour and a very special moment"

The moment of the day: candles lit, a deep breath, and one hundred years honoured in a single puff.
Over the afternoon, stories flowed freely. A century of life holds more than most of us can imagine: the world as it was, the decades of change, the quieter moments that shaped a man and those who love him. Mr. V reminisced about the highs of life, one of which was the day he met his wife, and the scarier times like when he served in the second World War. Jumping into the sea from burning ships, nights at the circus in Germany, and his travels across mainland Europe, all memories fresh in his mind as if they happened yesterday. It's on days like this that we're reminded, as we so often are in this work, of just how rich a human life can be.
Moments like these are a testament to the bonds that form between our carers, the people they support, and their families. Bonds that go far beyond the everyday and become something truly special.
From everyone here at Bluebird Care North Tyneside, we send our warmest and most heartfelt birthday wishes. Here's to you Mr. V, 100 years young, and every one of them well lived.
