From supermarket shop assistant to Head of Partnerships & Development

You don't have to know where your career in care will end when you first begin.

When Daniel Langridge joined Bluebird Care as a Care Assistant, he wasn't following a career plan.

Like many people, he was looking for a job. What he found was a career that kept opening new opportunities.

Today, Daniel is Head of Partnerships & Development, working with local communities, healthcare partners and organisations to improve access to care across several Bluebird Care offices.

Daniel's career journey

Daniel began his working life as a supermarket shop assistant before moving into social care as a Care Assistant. From there, he progressed to Care Coordinator, Lead Coordinator, Special Projects Manager, Live-in Manager and Senior Manager before taking on his current role as Head of Partnerships & Development.

"I quickly realised there was so much more to social care."

"When I first entered social care, I had no clear idea where my career might lead.

"What I quickly realised was that the sector offers far more opportunities than many people assume. As I gained experience, I was exposed to different areas of the profession and began to see pathways that I hadn't previously considered.

"That opened my eyes to the variety of careers available within social care and encouraged me to keep developing my skills."

For Daniel, every new role brought fresh experience, new responsibilities and another opportunity to learn.

Saying yes to new opportunities

Daniel believes confidence often grows after you've accepted a challenge, not before.

"I've never been afraid to step outside my comfort zone.

"Some of the biggest opportunities in my career came before I felt fully prepared for them. Rather than waiting until I felt ready, I chose to get involved, learn as I went and embrace new challenges.

"Having leaders who trusted me and gave me the freedom to try new things helped me build confidence and develop both professionally and personally."

Where can a career in care take you?

Today, Daniel leads partnerships and development across multiple Bluebird Care offices.

His role involves building relationships with local organisations, working alongside healthcare partners and helping develop services that support more people to receive care at home.

It's very different from where he started, but that's exactly the point.
