What is Alzheimer’s disease?

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia, which affects one in three people over the age of 65 years.

Contrary to popular belief, Alzheimer’s is not an inevitable consequence of aging, rather a physical disease. A progressive condition, Alzheimer’s slowly destroys the connections between nerve cells in the brain, causing memory loss, and creating difficulties problem solving, thinking and eventually, being able to carry out simple tasks.

Although most people don’t see symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease until their mid 60s, early onset Alzheimer’s can occur from the mid-30s.

How Bluebird Care Newmarket, Fenland, King’s Lynn and west Norfolk can support those with Alzheimer’s disease

While there is no cure for Alzheimer’s, the right support can help people with the disease to live comfortably in their own homes. The familiar surroundings of home are a comfort, and our home care services allow our customers to remain in their homes, rather than move to residential care or nursing homes.

Working in partnership with individual customers, we can provide care and support that is personalised to them.

We’ll create a care plan with you, to allow you to achieve your specific goals and aspirations. By listening to your needs, we can help you to live your life, your way.

Our staff are trained to help people living with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia

Our staff have been fully trained in how to care for people living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. Indeed, in 2018, we went the extra mile to help educate our care assistants by hosting the virtual dementia tour at our Ely HQ.

By being able to replicate the experiences felt by someone with dementia our care assistants were able to get a greater understanding of the disease and how they can help assist them. To find out more about the visit of the virtual dementia tour bus in our blog.
